Plan your Bulgaria trip without overthinking it:
- Flights: I usually compare prices on Kiwi, Skyscanner, and Omio – they often show different deals for the same routes.
- Accommodation: For apartments and hotels, Booking and HostelWorld cover pretty much every budget and city in Bulgaria.
- Tours & activities: If you don’t want to book on the spot, GetYourGuide and Viator are the easiest options.
- Transfers: For airport pickups and long-distance transfers, Welcome Pickups save time and negotiation.
- Car rental: I compare prices on DiscoverCars and LocalRent – especially useful outside Sofia.
- Mobile internet: For eSIMs, Saily is simple and cheaper than roaming.
- Travel insurance: I usually check HeyMondo (5% discount available) or SafetyWing, depending on trip length.

Bulgaria events in June
- 16.05-16.06.2026
- Ruse, Popovo, Isperih, Pisanets, Nisovo
- A month-long contemporary art program spread across multiple towns, with Ruse as the main hub and smaller locations hosting site-specific projects. The format leans toward experimentation – installations, performances, video, sound, and urban interventions – often placed directly into public or semi-public spaces. This isn’t a centralized festival you “attend” in one go; it requires intention and some planning, especially if you want to follow events outside Ruse.
- 04-06.06.2026 (Thur-Sat)
- Stara Zagora
- A free open-air jazz festival held inside the Augusta Traiana archaeological complex, which gives it a far better atmosphere than a standard city concert setup. The program moves between Cuban rhythms, big band swing, and jazz-classical projects over three evenings.
- 04-06.06.2026 (Thur-Sat)
- Banski Square, Sofia
- Sofia’s first climate-focused urban festival, centered around the city’s relationship with water and how public spaces can adapt to hotter summers. Expect exhibitions, workshops, discussions, art installations, and a surprisingly broad mix of architects, environmental groups, scientists, and local initiatives.
- 04-07.06.2026 (Thur-Sun)
- Drakata, near Strumyani
- A small-scale gathering focused on permaculture, wellness, music, and workshops, set in the hills near Sandanski. The atmosphere leans more toward community retreat than traditional festival, with an international mix of artists, facilitators, and sustainability-focused projects.
- 04-08.06.2026 (Thur-Mon)
- Hisarya
- A large folklore festival and competitive Balkan folk championship that brings together performers from across Bulgaria and the wider region. Expect traditional music, dancing, regional costumes, and nonstop stage performances spread across several days in Hisarya.
- 05-07.06.2026 (Fri-Sun)
- Arapovo Monastery, near Asenovgrad
- A folklore gathering built around Bulgarian traditions, regional music, and historical reenactments dedicated to the revolutionary Angel Voyvoda. The setting beside Arapovo Monastery gives it more of a community fair atmosphere than a polished festival one.
- 05-07.06.2026 (Fri-Sun)
- Kranevo
- A seaside food festival dedicated to fried sprat fish, cold beer, and live music, which tells you almost everything you need to know about the atmosphere. It’s casual, loud, and very summer-on-the-Bulgarian-coast in the most unpretentious way possible.
- 06.06.2026 (Sat)
- Stalpishe Area, near Mechka Village
- A small riverside festival focused on Danube fish dishes, including large batches of traditional fish soup cooked on-site and freshly grilled local catch. The setting along the river matters as much as the food, especially if you want a slower alternative to the Black Sea festival crowds.
- 06.06.2026 (Sat)
- American College of Sofia, Mladost 2
- A long-running school arts festival with student performances, workshops, games, and charity fundraising spread across the American College campus. The atmosphere is family-oriented and community-driven rather than a large public festival, but it’s an easy addition if you’re already in Sofia that weekend.
- 06-07.06.2026 (Sat-Sun)
- Damascena Ethnographic Complex, Skobelevo
- A rose harvest weekend built around traditional rose picking, folklore performances, and activities inside one of the better-known rose tourism complexes in the Valley of Roses. Expect a polished visitor-friendly version of rose season rather than a local village celebration.
- 12-14.06.2026 (Fri-Sun)
- Slivnitsa Blvd, Kyustendil
- An urban art festival focused on graffiti, street culture, and public painting, with one of the country’s largest legal graffiti walls open to anyone who wants to participate. Alongside the large-scale murals, there are workshops, music, and community activities spread across the weekend.
- 12-14.06.2026 (Fri-Sun)
- Kyustendil
- A long-running folklore competition that brings together performers from Bulgaria and abroad to present regional music, dance, and traditional costumes. The atmosphere is more cultural showcase than tourist festival, with nonstop stage performances throughout the weekend.
- 13-14.06.2026 (Sat-Sun)
- South Park, Sofia
- A large multicultural festival with food stalls, performances, workshops, embassy stands, and outdoor activities representing different Asian countries and traditions. It’s one of Sofia’s more accessible summer park events, especially if you enjoy browsing rather than following a fixed program.
- 19-21.06.2026 (Fri-Sun)
- Bedechka Park, Stara Zagora
- A relaxed outdoor festival built around music, workshops, sports, and open-air arts activities inside Bedechka Park. The program leans family-friendly during the day, with concerts and outdoor cinema taking over in the evening.
- 19-21.06.2026 (Fri-Sun)
- Sredno Gradishte & Chirpan
- A lavender-themed weekend with harvest rituals, distillery visits, folklore performances, markets, and outdoor concerts spread between Chirpan and nearby lavender fields. Like the rose festivals in central Bulgaria, this is partly about the flowers and partly about the seasonal atmosphere built around them.
- 19-21.06.2026 (Fri-Sun)
- Sofia Airport Park
- A large-scale electronic music festival built around immersive stage design, visual installations, and a mythology-inspired concept world. The atmosphere leans heavily into all-night audiovisual spectacle rather than a standard concert format.
- 20.06.2026 (Sat)
- Kaylaka Park, Pleven
- A folklore picnic-style gathering where wearing traditional Bulgarian clothing is mandatory rather than optional, which changes the atmosphere immediately. Expect folk music, dancing, performances, and large groups spread across the meadows of Kaylaka Park with blankets, food, and full costumes.
- 20-21.06.2026 (Sat-Sun)
- Summer Theatre, Sandanski
- An international folk dance festival focused on Bulgarian horo traditions and amateur dance groups from different regions and countries. The setting in Sandanski works well for it, especially in the evening when the summer theatre fills with nonstop performances and traditional music.
- 25-28.06.2026 (Thur-Sun)
- Pernik
- Bulgaria’s best-known short film festival and the country’s only event qualifying for the Oscars, Goya Awards, and Student Academy Awards in this category. Alongside international film screenings, the program includes industry talks, pitching sessions, digital arts, and experimental cinema.
- 25-28.06.2026 (Thur-Sun)
- Gergevana, near Velingrad
- A motorsport weekend focused on off-road driving and trial competitions, with professional racers sharing the terrain with hobby enthusiasts and spectators. Expect mud, steep technical courses, modified vehicles, and a surprisingly social camping atmosphere around the event grounds.
- 26-28.06.2026 (Fri-Sun)
- Velbazhd Square, Kyustendil
- Kyustendil’s signature festival dedicated to cherries, local produce, crafts, and live music during peak harvest season. The fruit displays are the main draw, especially the elaborate cherry arrangements that turn the central square into a surprisingly competitive showcase.
- 27.06.2026 (Sat)
- Festival and Congress Centre, Varna
- The opening event for the 100th edition of Bulgaria’s oldest music festival, which has shaped much of the country’s classical concert scene since 1926. The wider program stretches through the summer and includes symphonic music, opera, chamber concerts, ballet, and crossover projects.
- 27-28.06.2026 (Sat-Sun)
- Sofia
- One of Sofia’s bigger summer music festivals, focused mainly on rock, alternative, and crossover international acts. The 2026 lineup is headlined by IDLES and Three Days Grace, which gives a fairly accurate idea of the festival’s direction and crowd.
Traditional Bulgarian holidays in June
01.06 – Children’s Day & Rusalian Week 🌿
- June begins with International Children’s Day, one of the most widely celebrated family occasions in Bulgaria, but it also marks the start of Rusalian Week in folk tradition. According to belief, the Rusalii were wandering healer groups who traveled for seven days, using ritual practices to treat illnesses that traditional communities often grouped under the broad term of “madness.”
15.06 (28 June in the old calendar) – Vidovden ⛈️
- Observed mainly in Serbia and northwestern Bulgaria, Vidovden is connected to Vida, the sister of the weather saints German and Elisey, who was believed to have the power to calm destructive hailstorms. The saying “Vidovden will come” comes from this tradition, carrying the idea that sooner or later everyone must face the consequences of their actions.
24.06 – Enyovden (Midsummer’s Day) 🌼
- One of Bulgaria’s most important folk holidays – Enyovden – is associated with herbs, healing, and the peak of nature’s power. Tradition holds that plants gathered before sunrise on this day gain special medicinal qualities, while wreaths woven from flowers and herbs are used in rituals for health and protection.
